Refunds & Returns

Most Yorkshire Tweed suits are handmade to order or made to measure. That means your garment is started specifically for you, using the sizes, options and information you provide. Please read this page carefully before ordering. By placing an order, you confirm you understand and accept the terms below.

1) 48-hour cancellation window (full refund)

We offer a full refund within 48 hours of purchase for made to order and made to measure items.

In most cases we wait up to 48 hours before ordering fabric and beginning production, unless you have told us your order is urgent and needs to be started sooner.

To cancel within this window, contact us as soon as possible with your order number. If production or fabric ordering has already started due to an urgent request, cancellation may not be possible.

2) Made to Order and Made to Measure are custom items

We sell two main types of custom suit:

Made to Order (MTO)
You choose from our standard size options and styling choices. We make the suit to those selections.

Made to Measure (MTM)
You choose style options and provide measurements so the suit is cut around your body rather than a standard size.

Because these garments are custom-made to your selections, they are not treated the same as off-the-rack clothing and are not eligible for change-of-mind returns in the way standard distance selling purchases typically are.

If you are unsure on sizing, styling, or colour, please contact us before ordering and we will help you choose safely.

3) We sell to size, not to fit (important sizing note)

Our suits are made to the size you order, but tailoring includes overmeasure (ease) so the wearer can move and breathe comfortably.

For example, if you order a 40 inch chest jacket, the jacket itself will usually measure an inch or two more than 40 inches across the chest. This is normal and correct for tailored clothing.

Because of this, comparing your order to the measurements of the finished garment without understanding overmeasure can cause confusion. If you are unsure, message us before ordering and we will advise.

4) What is not eligible for a refund after 48 hours

After the 48-hour cancellation window has passed, we do not offer refunds for any of the following on made to order or made to measure suits:

  • Ordering the wrong size (jacket, waistcoat or trousers)

  • Choosing the wrong fit preference (for example slim vs regular)

  • Deciding you do not like how the suit fits your body

  • Choosing the wrong colour, pattern, or fabric

  • Deciding you do not like the style after receiving it

  • Event changes, weight changes, or no longer needing the suit

Colour and fabric expectations

We offer fabric samples for our tweed range. Because samples are available, “I do not like the colour in person” is not considered an acceptable reason to refund a made to order or made to measure suit. Screens and lighting vary, so we strongly recommend ordering a sample if colour accuracy matters for your event.

5) When a refund may be available

A refund is only considered where:

  • The item is faulty (a genuine manufacturing defect), or

  • We have clearly not followed the size/options confirmed on your order, or

  • The item is damaged in transit (report as soon as possible)

Your statutory rights are not affected. If something is genuinely faulty or we have made an error, we will put it right.

6) We will always try to put things right first

Even when a refund is not available (for example if you chose the wrong size), we will do our best to help you reach a great outcome. Depending on the situation, we may be able to offer:

  • Alterations guidance

  • Alteration support where appropriate

  • A paid remake or adjustment option if you want a different size

  • Practical advice to improve the fit

Larger orders (for example weddings)

For larger group orders, such as weddings, we may be able to remake individual pieces free of charge in certain situations. This will always depend on the specific circumstances and is handled case by case, but the aim is simple: we want the whole party looking right.

Priority handling for remakes

Any remade items, whether due to our mistake or due to a customer sizing choice, are treated as priority wherever possible.

7) If you believe the suit is not the size you ordered

If you claim that a jacket, waistcoat, or trousers are not the size you selected, we need clear evidence so we can check the issue properly.

Please send photos that show:

  1. The garment laid flat on a hard surface

  2. The garment buttoned up (jacket and waistcoat) and smoothed flat (not stretched)

  3. A tape measure placed clearly across the relevant measurement, such as:

    • Jacket or waistcoat: across the chest as appropriate

    • Trousers: across the waist as appropriate

  4. Photos must be clear enough to read the tape measure numbers

We will compare these photos to your order details and to standard tailoring overmeasure. If we have made an error, we will put it right.

8) Reporting an issue and timeframes

Please contact us as soon as possible after delivery if there is a fault, damage, or an issue with what was ordered. Ideally notify us within 14 days of delivery so we can resolve it quickly and fairly.

For damage in transit, message us immediately and keep all packaging until we confirm next steps.

9) Condition and packaging for any return (rare)

We aim to avoid returns wherever possible and you should confirm next steps with in writing before anything is sent back.

If a return is required, the suit must be returned:

  • In the original delivery box

  • On the hanger

  • Inside the garment bag

  • Including any gifts or extras that were included with the order

Items must be unworn other than trying on indoors, and kept clean and unaltered unless we have agreed otherwise.

10) Returns address (only if requested)

Please do not send anything back without contacting us first and receiving confirmation and important labelling instructions. If a return is required, the return address is:

Yorkshire Tweed, British Tailoring, PO BOX 574, Leeds LS6 9FA

11) How to contact us

To discuss cancellations, remakes, sizing questions, or faults, contact us via the Contact page or the email shown on your order confirmation and include:

  • Your order number

  • A clear description of the issue

  • Photos (including tape-measure photos for sizing claims)

  • Your preferred outcome (advice, alteration, remake, or refund where eligible)

12) Final note before you order

Custom tailoring is brilliant because it gives you something personal, but it is not the same as buying a standard retail item and returning it if you change your mind. If you are unsure about sizing, fit, or colour, contact us before ordering or request a fabric sample. By placing an order you confirm you understand and accept our returns policy and terms.
